A God Chaser

"One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to come to his home for a meal, so Jesus accepted the invitation and sat down to eat. A certain immoral woman heard he was there and brought a beautiful jar filled with expensive perfume. Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them." Luke 7:36

The immoral woman (Mary), was a prostitute. Her life was filled with sin. People probably saw her in the streets and degraded her. I wonder what she must have been thinking?

"What was this? Jesus is going to the house of the Pharisee? I know where that is! I could go and ask for forgiveness. I could bring my most expensive perfume and give it to Him as a gift! What if they scorned me? What if they throw me out? What if Jesus has me thrown out in the streets? If it is true about Him maybe he can give me something no one else can. Maybe my search will be over. I must try! I have nothing else to lose!"

Have you ever been in the position with nothing else left to lose. Have we come to the point in our lives where we know satisfaction can't be found anywhere else? I have. Too many times, I have been distracted. Too many times, I have stayed away from the truth searching for satisfaction. Sometimes I have stayed away in fear. Probably in shame many times. Yet, Mary doesnt care, why? She has nothing else to lose. She's not very popular and the only thing she has left is her bottle of perfume and her beautiful hair. What does she do?

"Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair."

She took the most precious thing to her and wiped the dirt and animal droppings off Jesus' feet.

"she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping."

She didn't ask for forgiveness. Didnt say a word. She wept. The Pharisees whispered: " She's a sinner!"

Lets stop here for a moment. Mary came in to see Jesus. She knelt before Him and wept, right? How many times have we come to God and wept? How many times have we brought ourselves before Jesus and just wept? More often than not we pray for a blessing or ask for something. "Lord give me a new house, I have been faithful!" "Lord, just bless my family!" How many times can we really say we went to God just to see God? Sadly, not very many. I'm guilty of this too. I have always asked God for this and that. I realize that we're supposed to do that, but what do we give him? What can we give the God of the heavens?

We give him our hearts and everything that is precious to us. Mary did. She brought her most expensive jar and poured it on Jesus' feet. She took her hair, and wiped his feet clean.

What happened next?

"Then Jesus turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn't offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn't give me kiss of greeting, but she has kissed my feet again and again from the first time I came in. You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume. I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. Then Jesus said to the woman, "Your sins are forgiven." Luke 7:44-48

This makes me weep. God wants people to love Him. He calls for your devotion. He wants His children to chase Him. Just like a child chasing his/her Daddy in the yard, because of love. He is madly in love with us! Do we feel the same? God isn't calling us just to "date" Him. He wants us to "marry" Him. Are you a God chaser? Do you, like Mary, go to His feet and offer everything? Do you like Moses ask again and again "show me your glory"? I dont know about you, but I want to see His face. I too want to weep before Jesus' feet. Do you love Him? Then chase Him. Become dead to this world. Get to the point when you have nothing else to lose. Go to Him wherever you are and weep. Call Him Father. Let Him draw close. Seek His face. Let us all declare:

"Please let me see your glorious presence" Exodus 33:20

Ask until he shows you his face. It will only happen when you give up your connections to this world. You must "die" daily to this world. He will draw near. Let your guard down and chase Him!
